Theme: James: Faith in Action
Brethren,
Hope we are all doing well?
On first glance, you may wonder what bridling the tongue has to do with our quarter theme ‘Faith in Action.’ That is until you encounter the questions James asks in James 3:11-12, ‘Do good water and bad water flow from the same spring? …can a fig tree make olives? Or can a grapevine make figs?’
Come join us this Sunday as we explore those questions, as we study the topic: Bridle your tongue. See attached outline for your reference.
Key learning points are:
1. The tongue is wild and evil and full of deadly poison. That is why an unbridled tongue is such a destructive force, leading to sin, ruin, punishment, and destruction.
2. Bridling the tongue is a sign of spiritual maturity. As the one who succeeds in controlling his tongue will find self-control in other areas of life easy.
3. As Christians, God expects that the tongue used to praise Him should not become a weapon of destruction. Rather, our words should be gracious, sweet, healthy, true, not filthy, or foolish or crude, filled with thanksgiving, wisdom, building up, giving grace to the hearers, and fit for the occasion.
